Beam Me Up, Scotty

Galactic Suite/Handout

Okay. I'm not turning my blog into a blog about Space. I promise. If I do, I am sure to lose both of the readers that I currently have. A news story caught my attention, so I felt the need to write about it. It's just coincidence that I blogged about a shooting star and read a news article about space two days in a row.

Long gone are the days of packing up the car, hittin' the road and making a pit-stop for the night at the Holiday Inn. In 2012, a Space Hotel is opening. That's right. For a mere 4.4 million dollars, you can enjoy a comfortable three night stay 280 miles above the earth. The official name of the "hotel" is the Galactic Suite Space Resort. To prepare the hotel guests for their space travel, an eight-week training on a tropical island is included in the 4.4 mil. Once up in space, four resort guests and two astronaut pilots will be in a pod. In order for the resort to stay in orbit, it will be traveling at 18,641 mph. As you're traveling at this super slow speed, you will see the sun rise not just once, but 15 times a day, and you'll circle the globe every 80 minutes.

43 insanely wealthy people have already made reservations in the first-ever Space Resort. Act fast because it sounds like the resort is filling up quickly!

When You Wish Upon a Star

If you know me, then you know that I have a love for space. Maybe you don't know me, but you'd assume that I'd like space since I am a little nerdy. I've had a weird fascination for the infinity and beyond since a young age. I've always had a dream to go to Huntsville for Space Camp. Don't think I haven't looked into the adult and teacher camps, because I totally have.

When I left school today, I ran a couple of errands. I finished my errand running at 5:30 and began driving home. Of course it was already dark. Boo for the stinkin' time change. I love that initial extra hour of sleep, but when that first nightfall comes, it reminds me how horrible it is. Back to the story: I was nearing my subdivision and was flying around the curves of the road near Western Place Apartments. When what to my wondering eyes should appear...but a shooting star! You're probably thinking, "big deal". In fact, I know you're thinking that very thing. When I told my mom this story, her reply was "Hmm." Not the kind of "hmm" like you're pondering. Just a noise that you make because you don't care. At all. Well, you wouldn't be thinking "big deal" if you had been in the car with me to witness this spectacular shooting light show for yourself. This was no ordinary shooting star. Which, you already know isn't a star at all, but a meteoroid. The meteoroid produces a trail of light called a meteor. But you already knew all that. I won't bore you with the space mumbo-jumbo. This was the brightest one I have ever seen. Plus, it seemed super close and really low to the ground. So close in fact, that if I had wrecked my car at that moment, I feel I could have blamed it on the meteoroid due to temporary blindness or fear that it was going to bust through my windshield. Yeah, I'm sure an officer would have totally bought that story. Usually when I see shooting stars, they are at such a far distance and pretty high in the sky. I completely convinced myself that this meteoroid stayed active through the many layers of the atmosphere and didn't burn out until it hit the ground, which resulted in a meteorite (the left over bit of rock). And I saw it! With my own two pretty little eyes. Now if only my wish would come true...

I have hit many curbs in my day as a driver. I've scratched my hubcaps just a few times as I've grinded along a curb. I've even had a tire replaced after I ripped a hole in it from hitting a curb so hard.
I recently saw a car that looks like it's had more (okay, a lot more) hubcap damage than my car. I couldn't resist taking a picture of the car. I'm honestly quite amazed by this picture. This very talented driver has managed to make one with the curb on every single spoke of their hubcap. Impressive. I'd just like to know how many tires they've had to replace.

The Poopy Diaper Game

Tonight I was channel flipping and I stopped when I reached TLC. The show 18 Kids & Counting was on. I don't watch this show, but have caught a few episodes here and there. I think it's kinda crazy that The Duggars keep popping out babies. The mom is currently expecting baby number 19 AND the mom and dad just became first-time grandparents. I mean, more power to them for having that much patience and love to share with so many kids. I have 24 kids for 7 hours a day at school, but luckily, I get to send those babies home to their parents at the end of the day. I also get holidays and summers kid-free and I get a new batch of kids each year. I can't imagine having 19 that were mine forever and always. Nope. Can't even imagine it.

On the episode, Momma Duggar was having a baby shower for her expecting daughter-in-law. They played a shower game that looked pretty fun to me, but probably gross to most people. Let me tell you all about it:
The Poopy Diaper Game
Items needed: various types of miniature candy bars, diapers
Prep: Number the diapers. Melt the miniature candy bars. Place melted miniature candy bars in diapers (noting what type of candy bar is in each diaper). Provide the individuals playing this game a list of the candy bars used. The guests have to open the diapers, pass them around, and guess what type of "surprise" is inside of each diaper. The person with the most correctly guessed candy bars wins.

Sounds like loads (pun intended) of fun doesn't it?

Rebecca- I bet you're hoping you'll get to play this game at a shower for your little baby. Yeah, I thought so.
