Beam Me Up, Scotty

Galactic Suite/Handout

Okay. I'm not turning my blog into a blog about Space. I promise. If I do, I am sure to lose both of the readers that I currently have. A news story caught my attention, so I felt the need to write about it. It's just coincidence that I blogged about a shooting star and read a news article about space two days in a row.

Long gone are the days of packing up the car, hittin' the road and making a pit-stop for the night at the Holiday Inn. In 2012, a Space Hotel is opening. That's right. For a mere 4.4 million dollars, you can enjoy a comfortable three night stay 280 miles above the earth. The official name of the "hotel" is the Galactic Suite Space Resort. To prepare the hotel guests for their space travel, an eight-week training on a tropical island is included in the 4.4 mil. Once up in space, four resort guests and two astronaut pilots will be in a pod. In order for the resort to stay in orbit, it will be traveling at 18,641 mph. As you're traveling at this super slow speed, you will see the sun rise not just once, but 15 times a day, and you'll circle the globe every 80 minutes.

43 insanely wealthy people have already made reservations in the first-ever Space Resort. Act fast because it sounds like the resort is filling up quickly!
