Because I know you're dying to know, I'll fill you in on my doctor visit from earlier. Well, I ended up being at Urgent Care for over two hours. The doctor took a look at my throat and said, "Oh my. That doesn't look good". Yeah. It didn't feel too good either. A strep test was done. The lady that gave it said, "You done good. You didn't gag or anything. Honey, I've been shoved, coughed on, and barfed on giving these things". Yeesh. Glad I don't have her job. I thought the strep swab was cake compared to the swab they do to test for the flu. That one sucks.
The strep test came back negative, so they wanted to test for mono. Seriously? I had mono once and did NOT want to go through that again. I definitely don't have time to be down and out for two weeks. Blood was drawn to test for mono. People that do lab work on me always say that I'm not a good 'stick'. My veins are hard to see and they roll. I'm a lab technicians nightmare. Every single one I've ever had has told me how difficult I was to get blood from. I have to get lab work done monthly and each month I dread it because I'm poked more than a person should be because of my crappity veins. The lady today had a very hard time. I think this was one of my worst experiences other than having the IV run before a surgery I had. The lady today stuck me so hard and was DIGGING the needle inside my arm. I like to think I'm pretty tough when it comes to needles. Even though I have bad veins and because of that it's painful, I suck it up and take it. Today I let out an "ow" and then another. The lady just kept digging. Then I started having tears well up in my eyes. I wanted to full on cry so badly. She really hurt me. She finally gave up on the vein she originally tried and went to another vein. She finally got some blood to flow. Thank you, Jesus. If my arm isn't black with bruises from all the poking it will be a miracle.
The mono test was also negative. I wasn't surprised by that because I really didn't think I had mono. Besides for the throat symptoms, I didn't feel the way I did when I had mono. The doctor came back in and said that because mono was negative, they were going to treat me for strep anyways. She said strep tests often come back negative, but they've seen so many cases of strep lately and that the way my throat looked she thought that's what it had to be. Who knows. She wrote me an excuse to be off work a couple days. I wasn't totally sad about that fact. I'll appreciate having the time to rest up. The only thing that stinks is that I have the kind of job that you can't just take off from and be sick. My work doesn't wait on me to get back. I have to leave plans to tell someone else how to do my job. After the two hour long doctor visit and a trip to the pharmacy (and a Starbucks stop), I went to school for a couple hours to get my classroom ready and plans made for a sub. Sigh. Sometimes it's just not even worth it to be off.
I had been on the go all day and I think when I got home and sat down, I finally realized that I did actually feel pretty crappy. I started crying, which is unlike me, but I was feeling miserable. The medicine may have been messing with my head a little too. Right now I'm feeling a little better. The medicine is already doing its job. The pain medicine is definitely doing its job to make my throat pain free. Weeeeee!
Wanna see my gnarly throat? Billy the Exterminator has inspired me to use the word gnarly as much as possible. Here's a picture I took when I got home from church this morning. I don't know if you've ever taken a picture of your throat, but it's not the easiest thing to do. If things like this gross you out, you probably shouldn't read my blog. Not much bothers me. I like gross stuff.
